The building being converted for vertical farming at this time are abandoned warehouses.

They are large and, at the moment, sell at a low price. Also, experiments with solar, wind and methane power sources are being conducted to help lower power costs.

In addition some buildings are having windows installed to bring in natural light.

As for pollination - who says you cannot have a few bee hives to do the job?
