We just planted our first crop of asparagus a month ago and we are already getting asparagus heads showing.
So, shall I just leave them alone and let them to continue to grow until winter then cut them down?
Some sites say we can eat a few stalks but some say to just leave them alone?

Hi Jen,
It is advisable not to harvest the asparagus during the planting year. Asparagus spears will grow from the expanded buds on the crown. As the spears grow they will reach a height of about 8 to 9 inches, and the tips will open.
The spear itself will becomes woody to support the small branchlets that will become ferns. The ferns will then produce food for the plant and then move it down to the crown for next year's spear production.
By taking spears now, you will weaken the whole process. Be patient and you will be rewarded the following growing season.
