Natural, Homemade Beauty Recipes for all Skin Types using Fruit and Vegetables

Our homemade beauty recipes for cosmetics are natural beauty products made from fresh fruit, vegetables or products that you will have stored in fridges or cupboards at home.

Stay away from commercial products that are filled with chemicals that can often do more harm than good to your hair and skin.

Despite using natural ingredients, some people may be allergic. Therefore, at no time do we suggest that you try these beauty recipes without carrying out a patch test on your skin first. We have no control over these recipes from other readers and you use them at your own risk.

In days past, before commercial beauty products women had home recipes for their natural cosmetics, creams, lotions and cleansers that were as common as their cooking recipes. Most of the homemade beauty recipes here can be made in your kitchen with common ingredients.

My one bit of advice would be to make small batches as there are no preservatives and you won't want them to go bad. To keep your ingredients fresh, store them in the refrigerator.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for the Skin:

Your skin is your largest organ, and needs to be fed and pampered to look good. You will be surprised what ingredients can be found in your fridge and fruit bowl that can do wonders for your skin.

I have been interested in homemade beauty products since I was about 15. It was at that time that I was getting skin breakouts, and needed to find a quick and cheap fix to my skin problems. What better way to treat your skin with healthy and natural foods that one can find in your fridges and kitchens.

Since then I have always relied on natural recipes for my skin. Now that I am older and have started developing fine wrinkles I have begun using papaya on my face, with excellent results.

I have yogurt and papaya for breakfast most mornings, and so once I have peeled the papaya I take the skin and gently rub my face, neck and the back of my hands with the fleshy side of the papaya. I leave this on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse off.

Even my husband asked me the other day what I was using on my face. When men notice something like that, you know that it has definitely worked!

So, don't be afraid to experiment. You might find something useful on your own!

Strawberries are also very good for your skin. Here is a simple recipe that is very good.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Sallow Skin:

50g strawberries
1 cup organic milk

Crush the strawberries well, soak in milk for 2 hours. Strain, put in a sealed jar and use the strawberry milk as a cleanser. Keeps in fridge for several days. Use the crushed strawberries as a face mark, leaving it on while lying down for 20 minutes.

You can also use the leftover strawberries to whiten your teeth. Rub the paste all over the teeth. Leave for a minute or two and rinse off.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Natural Cleansers

Cleaning your face should be done with a mild soap. Nothing cleans your face as good as this. However, we also know that there are people out there, and my daughter is one such person, who has sensitive skin, and you may be looking for an alternative way to clean your face and skin.

If you are looking to remove that make-up including eye-liner and mascara then any vegetable oil will do the trick. I like using olive oil. Simply put a little bit of olive oil on a cotton wool pad and gently clean. Almond oil and coconut oil also work just as well.

The recipe above for strawberry milk is also a good cleanser for the skin, but won't do the job the oil will do in getting rid of heavy make-up naturally.

Yogurt and Lemon Cleansing Lotion

1 tablespoon natural yogurt
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Mix together and spread on skin. Wash well with warm water after 3 minutes. This will not keep in the fridge and is best made fresh each time you want to use it.

Cucumber Cleansing Lotion

1/4 cucumber
1/4 pint organic milk

Extract or squeeze the juice from the cucumber. Add to the milk. Use with a cotton wool pad to cleanse the skin. This will keep in the fridge for a few days.

Another recipe for cucumber cleansing milk it to cook the cucumber. Grate a half cucumber into 1 cup milk. Simmer for 5 minutes. Cool, strain and bottle. Use to clean skin. Refrigerate the balance. Will keep for a few days.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Skin Fresheners

Skin fresheners help rinse away any residual fats and oils on your skin left behind by soap or creams. They also help to reduce the size of skin pores and restore the skins pH balance.

Fresheners, astringents and toners all do the same job. The difference between the 3 is that fresheners and toners are simple herbal applications used on normal skins. Astringents are stronger and used for oily and blemished skins. Put on a cotton wool pad and wipe the skin accordingly.

Simple Skin Freshener Recipes

Cider vinegar: Add a teaspoon to 1.5 cups water.
Potato: Rub the skin with a slice of raw potato.
Lemon: Rub the skin with a slice of lemon.
Cucumber: Squeeze the juice from 2 cucumbers. Heat to boiling point. Remove scum and bottle. Keep in fridge.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Moisturizers

Moisturizers are there to protect the skin against the harsh sun and environment. They do not feed the skin, but do keep the skin smooth and supple. Apply your moisturizer after cleansing and using an astringent or toner.

Simple Homemade Moisturizers

Vegetable oil: A thin coating of vegetable oil such as almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil over the face and skin. Smooth over and blot dry with some kitchen towel.
Cucumber: Cover the face with the juice. Blot dry.

Homemade Moisturizer Recipes

2 teaspoon pure honey
6 drops olive oil.

Mix together, pat onto thoroughly clean face. Leave for 20 minutes. Wash off.

Peaches and Cream Moisturizer

2 ripe peaches, peeled and mashed
equal parts of double cream
equal parts of elderflower water

Mix to a rich cream and use as a moisturizer after cleaning.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Skin Conditioners

Skin conditioners feed the skin and help prevent wrinkles and fine lines. This should be done every day, especially as you get older. Just a thin film is necessary to do the trick as long as you massage it gently as you apply it.

Simple Skin Conditioner Recipes

Honey: Moisten face. Massage in the honey. Keep on face for 20 minutes. Rinse off.
Honey and Cream:  Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 2 tablespoons light cream. Beat together. Massage into the skin. Leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off.
Papaya: Spread mashed fruit over face. Leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off.

Conditioning Cream

1 egg white
2 teaspoons honey
4 drops almond oil

Beat the egg white and add it to the honey. Stir in the oil. Use and then put the rest in the fridge. It will keep for a few days only.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Exfoliators

Exfoliating the skin is important to remove the dead skin cells and allow new cells to come to the surface. If you don't exfoliate the dead skin cells clog up the pores and the skin becomes uneven, rough or even flaky.

So if you want a glowing skin, exfoliate once a week using a cleansing scrub. This is usually done after cleansing. After exfoliating you can finish off with moisturizing the skin. Of course, scrubs are not limited to the face, you can make body scrubs as well.

Simple Homemade Exfoliating Recipes

Vegetable oil: Rub the face with either almond, coconut or olive oil. Dab on warm water mixed with cider vinegar. Rub this mixture onto the skin with circular movements to remove the dead skin cells.

Salt: Salt acts as an abrasion and so is perfect for all skins, except thin, delicate skins. Sprinkle either directly on to a wet face cloth and apply, or add to some oil. Apply with a gently circular action.

Sugar: Brown or raw sugar also is a perfect scrub ingredient that will leave the skin feeling lovely and soft. Add a light oil such as sunflower, almond or olive oil to your sugar before massaging it into the body.

Refreshing Facial Scrub

1/2 cup oatmeal
1 tablespoon raw, sunflower seeds
1/2 teaspoon fresh mint leaves

Blend all ingredients in a food processor and process until you have a fine powder. I like using a small coffee grinder for this. Mix together a teaspoon or two of water to make a paste, and massage into damp skin. Rinse well with warm water, followed by cooler water.

Anti-Cellulite Leg Scrub

Coffee grounds have long been known to tone the skin and help to stimulate circulation when rubbed into the thighs, helping, in turn to reduce cellulite. Along with a good diet and exercise, the anti-cellulite scrub should be part of your a weekly health regime for good results.

1 cup cold coffee grounds
1/2 cup raw brown sugar
1/2 cup coarse sea salt
1/2 cup olive oil

Mix altogether and rub into the tops of the thighs with long, circular stroking motions. Do this for at least 5 minutes to help boost circulation.

I have known people to wrap their legs in glad wrap with this mixture on their legs after the massage, who swear that it makes the difference. I leave it up to you to decide. I have found that doing the massage is enough to make a difference. This is not a quick fix, however, and it is several weeks before you will notice a difference.

Rosemary Salt Scrub

2 cups coarse sea salt
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary leaves, finely chopped
1 cup light oil

Mix sea salt and rosemary together. Add the oil til you have a paste that you can use as your body scrub. Massage into your skin, and rinse off with warm water.  This sea salt scrub will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

Gentle Facial Scrub for Sensitive Skins

If you, or your family have sensitive skin, then this is for you. I have a daughter with incredibly sensitive skin, and she has to be so careful what she puts on her skin, otherwise it will end up burning rather than soothing.

Cucumber juice, chamomile flowers and aloe vera are all cleansing and soothing for the skin. Cornmeal and oatmeal are scrubbing ingredients that are both mild and can be used on all skin types.

2 inch piece cucumber
1 tablespoon cold chamomile tea
2 inch aloe vera leaf (remove outer spines)
2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal

Place the first 3 ingredients into a blender or food processer and puree. Add the cornmeal. Massage into a damp skin. Rinse well with warm water, followed by cool.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Facials

Facials not only cleanse and stimulate the skin, but they also nourish, increase circulation, and often have ingredients that draw out skin impurities and toxins. Facials are your homemade face masks although you can also use steam for facials. I prefer face masks, but then that is just a matter of choice.

Simple Homemade Facial Recipes

Strawberries: Mash strawberries and apply. The strawberries will soften and lighten the skin and helps to restore the pH levels. You can add finely ground oats if the mixture is too sloppy.

Pineapple: Chop up 1/4 pineapple in a food processor until mushy. Apply directly to the skin. Leave on face for 10 - 15 minutes. This homemade facial will help remove dead skin cells.

Apricots:
Mash fresh apricots to a pulp. If you have dry skin add 1 teaspoon honey. For oily skins add a whisked egg white.

Avocado:
Mash and mix with honey and lemon juice. Apply to skin for 10 - 15 minutes.

Cabbage:
Juice some cabbage leaves to extract the juice. Heat slightly and apply to the skin using cotton wool pads.

Egg whites: Whisk an egg white until stiff. Brush onto face.

Egg yolks: Beat and combine with a tablespoon honey and a teaspoon of almond, coconut or olive oil.

Honey: Add 2 tablespoons of honey and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice together. Apply.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Dry Skin

Some of us have dry skin, which is a lot easier to sort out than oily skin, in my opinion. The one drawback of having dry skin is that it does result in premature aging. So one of the easiest ways of sorting out dry skin is to add a few drops of vegetable oil to your bath water every day.

Almond oil is very good for dry skin. The best fruits and vegetables for dry skin are strawberries, papaya, avocado, apricots, papaya and cucumber. Also use face masks with honey, egg yolks and, or, oil.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Oily Skin

Oily skin is prone to pimples and blemishes. The main concern is to keep the pores free from getting clogged. Remove make-up using skim milk. Take 2 teaspoons of skim milk powder and mix into 1 cup of warm water. Oatmeal mixed with lemon juice is also good for cleaning out the pores.

Fruit, vegetables and foods that are good for oily skins are lemons, potato, apple cider vinegar, cucumber, yogurt.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Pimples and Acne

No one likes to get pimples, especially teenagers. But help is at hand. There are a number of natural ways to control pimples and blackheads.

  • A simple facial is to finely grate 3 carrots. Place on skin for 20 minutes. Wash off.
  • Another is to use parsley. Steep a handful of parsley in a cup of boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain and apply with a cotton wool pad to the face. Leave for 15 minutes. Wash off. Apply daily until pimples have disappeared.
  • Egg white can also be used for pimples. Beat an egg white and add 2 drops of spirit of camphor. Dab on pimples ad leave for 20 minutes before washing off.  If you don't have camphor oil you can add 1 tablespoon of finely grated cucumber, and apply as a facial.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Blackheads

For blackheads there are a number of homemade recipes.

  • The first is to use bicarbonate of soda. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of bicabonate of soda in a cup of hot water. Soak cottonwool pad into the liquid and apply to blackheads. Have the water as hot as you are able to bear so that the pores open.
  • Parsley can also be used for blackheads. Soak a handful of parsley overnight in mineral water. Strain and apply to blackheads with a cottonwool pad.
  • Mix 1/2 cup of white wine with a squeeze of lemon juice. Apply to the blackheads with a cottonwool pad. Moisten with some oatmeal and apply as a paste. Wait until dried and then wash off.
  • Finally, dissolve 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts in a cup of boiling water. Add 3 drops of iodine. Wait until liquid is safe enough to apply to skin, but make sure that you apply it while it is still hot.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Wrinkles

Wrinkles are part of ageing, and although to age gracefully is an aim for some, one can delay the process. Patting almond oil around the eyes will help with the fine lines and crows' feet.

Another recipe uses potatoes. Peel a potato and finely grate into a bowl. Add a little whipped cream to make a paste. Smooth over face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off.

Homemade Beauty Recipes for Freckles

Finally, for those of you with freckles, this is a very old recipe. Take 2 tablespoons of horseradish and place in a cup of sour milk. Allow to stand for 24 hours. Apply frequently.

Here's another. Take pumpkin seed kernels and grind them into a powder. Add some olive oil to make a smooth paste. Apply to freckles.

Countryfarm Lifestyles Tip for a Homemade Almond Oil Recipe

As you can see, the above recipes call for almond oil. For those of you who can't seem to source almond oil make your own.

Grind 25 grams almond kernels in a coffee grinder. Mix with 1/2 liter distilled water. Leave to steep for 1 hour. Drip through coffee filter paper. Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar and a few drops of Friar's balsam. Store in a tightly-sealed, dark colored glass bottle.
